Why Choose Recycled Materials?

Choosing recycled materials is a smart way to make use of what’s already in circulation, rather than producing new materials from the Earth’s resources. Using virgin materials requires both energy and new inputs, while recycled materials build on what already exists. This reduces unnecessary impact and contributes to a more circular journey where every kilogram counts. A PET bottle, a plastic package, or leftover material from a factory can be given new life as part of a lighting solution. Working with recycled materials is just one part of our broader mission to develop smart and resource-efficient lighting solutions. We consider the entire chain, from material and product development, to how our products are used and can be reused. Several of our luminaires are based on modular options, marked with a Hide-a-lite choice.

Our Approach to Material Selection

Exploring new materials and thinking in new ways comes naturally to us. We choose recycled materials where they make the greatest difference, without compromising function, lighting comfort, or quality. The material must withstand its environment, fulfill its purpose, and provide reliability during installation. Today, we primarily use recycled plastic — both post-consumer materials that have already been in circulation, and pre-consumer materials that would otherwise become waste. We evaluate new recycled materials that can work in our lighting solutions and contribute to even more resource-efficient products.

Reducing Plastic Waste

One area we especially want to highlight is ocean plastic. Every year, around 11 million tonnes of plastic end up in the oceans, and without joint action, we risk having more plastic than fish in the seas by 2050. That is a development we refuse to accept. That’s why we collect plastic from marine environments, clean it, and give it new life as modern lighting products. This means that plastic that once harmed ecosystems now contributes to safer stairwells, garages, and warehouses across Scandinavia. A choice that reduces plastic waste, strengthens circular flows, and combines responsibility with function. It’s important to clarify that ocean plastic is not our only material path. The foundation of our product development is to use recycled materials, regardless of their origin. In short: by working with recycled materials, we make use of existing resources, and create better conditions for the lighting of the future without compromising performance.

How We Ensure the Material Is Truly Recycled

To ensure you as an installer can trust the products that use recycled materials, we place clear demands on our suppliers. We require certificates that specify the share of recycled content and whether the material is pre- or post-consumer. In addition, we produce a self-declaration for each relevant product, giving us a product-specific certificate that tracks the material from supplier to finished luminaire. This means we can always show exactly what the materials are made of and the resource benefits they provide. Below are the certificates we currently use, with more to be added as we continue to drive the development toward even smarter material choices.
